Diabetic Care

Image may contain: 2 people, baby and text

There is a disease that is most 'fearful' of "sweet temptations" - it is diabetes. Diabetes is due to defective insulin secretion and immune system disorders. It is often accompanied by adverse complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, heart, blood vessels, nerves and so on.

When natural circulatory systems are disrupted, there must be a cause.
For diabetes, there are many causes - excessive sugar consumption is one of them.
When I was in Myanmar, I found that their eating habits includes a lot of high sugar content food. As a result many people of Myanmar have high blood sugar levels.

What should diabetics pay attention to and strive for in their diet?
1. Try to limit glucose, sucrose, honey and other products such as cakes, candies and the like.
2. Drink less juice, instant, re-constituted and processed foodstuffs; on staple foods, switch to millet, wheat, brown rice, and buckwheat.
3. Consume legumes that have much lower sugar content to that of flour and rice.
4. Consume suitable greens and fruits. Vegetables that contain less sugar include cucumber, pumpkin, tomatoes, bitter-gourd, onion, four season beans, cabbage, bamboo shoots, Chinese cabbages, celery, and bean sprouts; fruit examples include guava, apples, pears, strawberries, papaya and cherries.
5. Supplement nutrition with appropriate amounts of nuts such as cashews, sesame seeds, walnuts and hazelnuts (except for those with nut allergies). Nuts are high in energy and have low sugar content.
6. Lastly, do not consume alcohol; people who use hypoglycemic drugs should pay attention to hypoglycemia (low sugar condition).

To steer clear of diabetes' predicaments, it is vital that one builds up the body and also exercise regularly.
I knew a female practitioner who was paralyzed and lying on the bed for extended periods due to diabetes. She was immobile and blind due to the disease. As a result, she had to be attended to for her needs. Subsequently, she was introduced to Bodhi Meditation and after practicing for a couple of months, she could get off the bed and even exercise on her own. Thinking back, had she remained immobile, she could have departed from this world within two to three months. Now after more than 10 years, she is volunteering at Bodhi Meditation Center and also leading a group to practice the Meditation of Greater Illumination together.

I conducted an experiment in Myanmar and found that Energy Bagua has exceptional benefits against diabetes. Several Energy Bagua practitioners who had persevered with their practice for an extended period of time surprised their doctors with their physical improvements during their regular medical checkups. Gradually, their doctors reduced their prescribed medication; some no longer need medication as their blood sugar levels became normalized.

We welcome people with diabetes and high blood sugar levels to join us in Energy Bagua! May everyone practice to obtain great health, happiness, and rejuvenated life!

Note:
* The effects of meditation vary from person to person.
* Bodhi Meditation does not advocate that patients reduce or even stop taking their prescribed medication; they should follow the advice from their doctor.

What Is The Best Gift For Your Children?

"As parents, we should not demand that our children be in a certain occupation; instead, we should cultivate their positive qualities, such as patience, adaptability, resilience, loving-kindness, empathy, judgement and leadership. This way, no matter which time period they are in, which countries they go to, they can easily adapt, become successful and have a good life."
- Master Jin Bodhi
As extracted from Puti website - Walking towards Master Jin

Commentary by Jerome:

I was walking by a coffee shop when I saw a mother scolding her son loudly, "Stop playing and do your homework now! I want you to finish your homework in 15 minutes! Otherwise I am going to slap you!"

Many Asian families impose high demands on their children to achieve academic success, as many hope that their children to end up in prestigious occupations such as doctors, lawyers, economists and politicians. They define success as having a stable job with high salary.

Many parents send children to tuition every weekend - sometimes the children may be reluctant, while at other times it is unnecessary as they already have good grades. Many parents also deny their children of fun and opportunities to explore their passions and talents as they think it is impractical. Some have music talent while others enjoy art, but unfortunately they will never be developed further.

Parents do not understand that cultivating positive qualities such as patience, adaptability, loving-kindness and leadership are much more important than studying, having good grades and a high paying job. An individual in a prestigious and highly paid job may not be happy at work and life and may develop depression because he is not doing something that he wants to do deep inside.

If you truly wish your child the best and want them to be happy, cultivate positive qualities in your him/ her instead. In this way, they can be adaptable and successful in whichever occupation they are in.

Pursuing Your Dreams

[2017 International Bodhi Meditation Youth Camp]--- Do you persevere towards your dream?

In the recent Malaysia held International Bodhi Meditation Youth Camp, I posed a few questions to the participants about their ambitions; more than 90% responded that they wished to be successful, yet often very few would eventually succeed. Why is this so?

For instance, professional athletes must run 2 kilometers and train for at least 6 hours daily. With the most scientific methods of training plus a conscientious approach, they must improve beyond their physical limits so as to close the gap with the world championship record - they rely very much on perseverance.

In reality, the world champion is not purely about talent, and definitely not due to luck but rather to the grit in daily training and endurance, gradually advancing from a provincial runner-up, champion and then to become the world champion: an arduous process.

If a person has aspirations and ambition, no matter the pain, suffering, criticism, and possibility of incarceration, he is ready to lay his life without complaints or regrets, as he is inherently driven to accomplish them; every step forward is bliss.

Thus, to have an enjoyable (and fulfilling) life, one must have aspirations. From aspirations, one develops the strength, wisdom and courage to diligently accomplish them without the need for constant reminders - this is a form of self-consciousness.

When a person is self-conscious and motivated toward his aspirations, while he may be worn out (during the process), he nonetheless relishes a great sense of satisfaction.

Prevent the Three-Highs

It is not 1+1+1=3, but 1+1+1>3.

When a person’s body is invaded by the “3-highs”- high blood sugar, high blood lipids and high blood pressure, the chance that pathological changes in the blood vessels causing the speed of vascular lesions increases significantly. Patients with the "3-highs" consequently succumb to coronary heart disease or cerebrovascular conditions.

A fresh report from the American Heart Association (AHA) informs that the incidence of heart disease in the United States continues to increase at an alarming rate. AHA President Steven Houser pointed out that heart disease in the population continues to spread much faster than forecasted. AHA researchers had forecasted in 2011 that 40% of Americans would have some form of heart disease by 2030. But there had been a big deviation from this forecast - by 2015, however, 41.5% of the population in America were diagnosed with at least one heart-related disease 15 years ahead of the prior forecast. Following up, the agency forecasted that by 2035 more than 123 million Americans could be diagnosed with high blood pressure; 24 million with coronary artery disease; more than 11 million could suffer from stroke; nearly 9 million from heart failure; and more than 7 million from atrial fibrillation.

The World Health Organization advises that a healthy diet can help to prevent diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

It also recommends healthy eating for adults as follows:
1. Fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and whole beans (such as unprocessed corn, millet, oats, barley, and brown rice).
2. Consume at least 400 grams daily of fruits and vegetables, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava and other starchy root foods that are not fruits or vegetables.
3. For a person with a healthy weight and daily requirement of about 2000 calories, less than 10% of the energy should come from free sugars - these being mostly added to food by manufacturers, cooks, or consumers. Instead, favor sugar naturally present in honey, syrup, juices and concentrated juices.
4. Fat content should account for less than 30% of total energy. Industrial production of trans-fats (from processed foods, fast food, snacks, fried food, frozen pizza, pies, biscuits, margarine and coated food paste, etc.) is not good for health.
5. Daily salt intake of less than 5 grams (equivalent to about a tablespoon).

Finally, it also highlights the need to reduce fat consumption: change the way of cooking, remove fat, use vegetable oils (instead of animal oils), cook or bake instead of fry, avoid processed foods that contain trans-fats and eat less saturated fats such as cheese, ice cream and fatty meat.

One Easy Way To Be Happy

Seeking out the faults of others would ultimately lead to your own demise.

Far too often, we spend a lot of time pointing out other people's faults when we should instead focus on improving ourselves.

When we learn to see the good in people, that leads us on the path towards self improvement. When you are able to develop kindness within yourself, you will then be able to experience happiness and bliss regardless of the person, situation or object in front of you. You will then experience happiness in every aspect of your life.
